Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners
The Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners is Nevada's dental regulatory authority, responsible for licensing and overseeing dental professionals who practice in the state. The Board's website at dental.nv.gov provides resources for consumers, licensees, and businesses.
The Board's site is organized into four main areas:
- Consumers — license verification, consumer FAQ, complaint forms, public records requests, and helpful links.
- Licensure — license applications, dental assistant resources, continuing education, infection control, and permit applications.
- Business Services — dental practice registration, licensee list requests, and moderate sedation provider approval.
- Public Information — Board meeting minutes, news and press releases, advisory opinions, and annual reports.
Current licensing requirements, Board rules, fee schedules, and consumer resources are at dental.nv.gov.
License types in Nevada
The Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners licenses dental professionals who practice in Nevada, including dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants. The Board also oversees special endorsements, certification programs, and permits for sedation procedures.
Licensed dental hygienists may apply for a Dental Hygiene Public Health Endorsement through the Board. Dentists seeking to administer moderate sedation or general anesthesia must obtain a separate permit; both provider and facility applications are available through the Board.
Verify current license categories, endorsement requirements, and active licensee status at the License Verification portal or the online portal at online.nvdental.org.
Applying for a Nevada dental license
Nevada dental license applications are submitted to the Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners. Application forms and resources are available at dental.nv.gov under the Licensure section. Board Petition Requests for special circumstances are also processed through the Board.
License verification for applicants and employers is available through two channels:
- Online verification portal — search active licensees at online.nvdental.org/#/VerifyLicense.
- Exam/License Verification Order Form — a downloadable PDF form available at dental.nv.gov/Consumers/License_Verification/.
Confirm current application requirements, examination criteria, and fees at dental.nv.gov before submitting any application.
Fees and license renewal
Nevada dental licenses require periodic renewal on schedules established by the Board. Online renewal is available through the Nevada licensing portal at online.nvdental.org. Paper renewal applications are also available for dental hygienists for the current renewal cycle (2026–2028).
The Board publishes a current schedule of fees for all credential types on its website. Licensees are responsible for renewing by the applicable deadline and maintaining current contact information with the Board.
The current fee schedule is at dental.nv.gov under Licensee Resources. Confirm renewal deadlines and current fees before submitting a renewal.
Continuing education requirements
Nevada requires licensed dental professionals to complete continuing education (CE) as a condition of license renewal. The Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners maintains a list of Board Approved Certification Programs and Courses for licensees seeking qualifying CE options.
CE requirements vary by credential type. The Board publishes its CE requirements and a list of approved programs in the Licensee Resources section of its website.
Current CE hour requirements, approved topics, and Board-approved CE programs are at dental.nv.gov under Licensee Resources.
Scope of practice
Nevada dental practice law defines the scope of activities authorized for dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants licensed by the Board. These definitions establish what procedures each credential holder may legally perform and under what supervision conditions.
Key scope-related resources from the Board include:
- Advisory Opinions — Board-issued guidance on practice scope questions, available at dental.nv.gov.
- Dental Hygiene Public Health Endorsement — expands the settings in which hygienists may practice; available through the Board's licensure section.
- Prescribing in Nevada — Board resources govern prescribing authority for dental practitioners, including the Prescription Monitoring Program.
- Dental Practice and Facility Registration — the Board registers dental practices and permanent facilities operating in Nevada.
Scope of practice rules, supervision requirements, and advisory opinions are available at dental.nv.gov.

The NDA's stated mission is to promote the highest standards of care and professional excellence through education, leadership, and communication — preserving the integrity of the dental profession and strengthening the doctor/patient relationship.
As a tripartite organization, NDA members are also members of the American Dental Association and their local component society. The NDA represents Nevada dentists in legislative and regulatory matters affecting oral health in the state.

Disciplinary actions and license verification
Disciplinary records for Nevada dental licensees are publicly accessible through the Board's license verification system. The verification data includes any action imposed by the Board against a licensee, as well as any notices provided to the Board by casualty insurance companies of a claim or complaint of malpractice in accordance with NRS 690B.250.
The Board makes available reports of malpractice claims or complaints for licensees who have a settlement, award, or judgment exceeding $5,000, per information submitted by the insurer.
The Board notes that the absence or presence of information in the verification system does not imply any recommendation, endorsement, or guarantee of competence of any dental or dental hygiene licensee, nor does the mere presence of such information imply a practitioner is not competent or qualified.
How to look up disciplinary records
- Use the online verification portal at online.nvdental.org/#/VerifyLicense to search active Nevada dental and dental hygiene licenses.
- For the most current verification information, contact the Board through dental.nv.gov.
