Louisiana Dental License Renewal
Updated August 2026
Fees, deadlines, and what's required to renew a dental license in Louisiana.
Louisiana dental and dental hygiene licenses renew on a biennial (two-year) cycle under La. R.S. 37:770, with a staggered expiration date based on the licensee's last name at the time of original issuance: licensees whose last name began with A–L expire in odd-numbered years, and M–Z in even-numbered years, both on December 31. Online renewal is no longer available — renewal is by mail with a check or money order, using the paper renewal application on the Licensee Login page at lsbd.org/renewals.htm.
Application and initial licensing fees
| License type | Licensure by Examination | Licensure by Credentials |
|---|---|---|
| Dentist | $350 | $2,050 |
| Dental Hygienist | $180 | $830 |
Biennial renewal and permit fees
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Dentist biennial renewal | $590 |
| Dental Hygienist biennial renewal | $230 |
| Personal nitrous oxide/enteral sedation permit (issue and renewal) | $50 |
| Personal/office moderate sedation or general anesthesia permit (initial) | $400 |
| Moderate sedation or general anesthesia permit renewal | $200 |
| Dental hygiene nitrous oxide or local anesthesia permit | $50 |
| Duplicate original license or duplicate renewal certificate | $50 each |
Failure to pay the renewal fee before the current certificate expires provides a basis for temporary suspension; a delinquency fee applies to any renewal paid after expiration but before suspension or revocation proceedings begin, under La. R.S. 37:770. Anesthesia and sedation permits do not transfer between offices — a new office permit application is required at each location.
