The Vermont State Dental Society (VSDS) is the state's professional association for dentists and the Vermont affiliate of the American Dental Association. With just under 400 members, VSDS represents more than 80 percent of practicing dentists in the state. The Society is governed by an elected Executive Board under its founding bylaws.

Mission: The Vermont State Dental Society advocates for evidence-based public policies to advance the dental profession and improve the oral health of Vermonters.
Vision: For Vermont to maintain a strong oral healthcare delivery system that provides high-quality, patient-centered dental care.

  • Annual Vermont Dental Conference — September 17–18, 2026, DoubleTree Hotel Burlington; described as Vermont's largest gathering of dental and oral health professionals
  • Legislative advocacy at the Vermont Statehouse, including an annual VSDS State House Day
  • In-house recruiting service connecting dentists with Vermont practice opportunities
  • Member CE programming and continuing-education verification services
  • ADA Member Advantage endorsed partner programs
Expanding dental education In September 2024, VSDS announced a partnership with the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) — backed by Senators Sanders and Welch — to bring a CODA-accredited Dental Oral Health Education Center to Vermont. Students will complete two years of foundational study at UDM's Detroit campus followed by two clinical years at a new Vermont-based clinic, with a tentative Chittenden County (Colchester) location, targeting the 2027 academic year and aiming to expand Vermont's dentist pipeline.
