Vermont dental licenses run on a fixed 2-year renewal cycle — unlike a birthday-based cycle, every license in a given profession expires on the same statewide date. For the Dental profession, that date is September 30 of odd-numbered years. Renewal applications open six weeks before expiration and are submitted through the OPR Online Services portal.

License type Application fee Renewal fee
Dentist $285.00 $655.00
Dental Hygienist $200.00 $245.00
Dental Therapist $215.00 $310.00
Registered Certified Dental Assistant (with Radiology Privileges) $80.00 + $100.00 specialty fee $105.00
Registered Traditional Dental Assistant $80.00 $105.00

All application and renewal fees are non-refundable. Under OPR's 90-Day Initial Licensing Policy, an initial license issued 90 days or less before the profession's renewal date is granted through the next full 2-year period at no extra charge; one issued 91 or more days before the renewal date must renew at the upcoming cycle like any other license.

Late renewal Licenses not renewed by the expiration date become inactive, and practicing on a lapsed license violates 3 V.S.A. § 127. Late renewals are subject to a reinstatement penalty fee; waivers of that penalty can be requested through the online licensing system under 3 V.S.A. § 127(d). OPR's fee schedule does not publish a flat late-fee dollar amount — confirm the current penalty at renewal.
