The South Dakota Dental Association (SDDA) is the professional membership organization for South Dakota dentists and allied dental staff, affiliated with the American Dental Association. Founded in 1883, the SDDA has represented South Dakota dentistry for more than 140 years and today has nearly 500 dentist members and more than 500 allied dental staff members statewide.
Mission and programs
The SDDA's mission is to promote the art and science of dentistry and the oral health of the public, educate the public on the benefits of quality preventive and restorative dentistry provided by the entire dental health care team, and serve its members regarding practice health and general welfare.
- Advocacy — represents member and public-health interests before the South Dakota Legislature and the Board of Dentistry on regulatory and scope-of-practice issues.
- Continuing education — offers CE opportunities to help members meet Board renewal requirements.
- Delegation/Supervision Guide — publishes an annual guide summarizing which duties dentists may delegate to hygienists, RDAs, and dental assistants under Board rules.
- Be Well program — wellbeing resources for dental offices and staff.
- Career Center — a marketplace connecting members with dental employment opportunities statewide.
