The Indiana Dental Association (IDA) is the statewide professional organization for Indiana dentists and a constituent society of the American Dental Association. The IDA's stated mission is Supporting Dentists. Promoting Oral Health.

2026 legislative session results

• HEA 1254 & SEA 180 (effective July 1, 2026) — IDA-backed modernization of the three-strike licensure exam rule, expanded Board authority to approve nitrous oxide training programs, and a new dental hygiene licensure pathway for qualified foreign-trained dentists.
• HEA 1271 — addresses insurer payment instability affecting dental practices, including a shortened claim-recoupment window (generally 180 days instead of 2 years, absent fraud), coordination-of-benefits resubmission rights, and new transparency and human-review requirements for insurer downcoding decisions.
• SB 174 (defeated) — IDA helped defeat legislation that would have prohibited community water fluoridation in Indiana.
• SCR 9 (adopted) — recognized Indiana's Donated Dental Services program for surpassing $20 million in donated dental care.

• Continuing education — IDA and local component CE courses are ADA CERP-recognized and accepted by the Indiana State Board of Dentistry toward renewal, including dedicated ethics and opioid-related coursework.
• Peer Review mediation — free quality-of-care dispute resolution for patients, available before a formal licensing complaint.
• Advocacy — state-level legislative advocacy plus access to ADA national resources; Indianapolis is scheduled to host the ADA Scientific Session in 2026.
