Michigan Dental Association

The Michigan Dental Association (MDA), founded in 1856, is the oldest professional association in Michigan and the oldest dental association in continuous existence in the United States. The MDA represents more than 5,800 members — about 70% of practicing dentists in Michigan — and is a constituent society of the American Dental Association, so all MDA members are also ADA members. The MDA is made up of 24 local dental societies across the state.

MDA membership provides access to:

• Continuing education — MDA CE Live in-person and virtual courses, MDA CE On-Demand, radiography training, and the Certified Dental Business Professional credential for practice staff.
• Legislative advocacy — a Legislative Action Center for contacting lawmakers and a Dental PAC, alongside ongoing work on access to care, dental benefits, and scope-of-practice issues affecting Michigan dentistry.
• Access to care programs — including Donated Dental Services, engagement on Michigan Medicaid policy, community water fluoridation advocacy, and the Mission of Mercy (MOM) free and low-cost dental care events sponsored through the MDA Foundation.
• Practice and legal resources — guidance on dealing with dental insurers, billing issues, employment issues, and licensure and regulation questions.
