The Texas Dental Association (TDA), chartered in 1871, is the third-largest state dental association in the United States. TDA reports over 9,200 members organized into 26 component dental societies grouped into 4 geographic divisions, and is part of a tripartite affiliation with the American Dental Association at the national level.
TDA's governance includes a 15-voting-member Board of Directors (plus 2 non-voting ex officio members) and a 141-delegate House of Delegates representing the component societies, the Board, the speaker of the house, and one student delegate from each of the state's three dental schools. TDA's official publication, the Texas Dental Journal, has been published since 1883 and is described as the oldest continuously operating dental periodical in the Americas.
TDA provides practice management support, legislative and regulatory advocacy, member CE, and access to national ADA resources. Its legislative and policy staff track TSBDE rulemaking on members' behalf — for example, TDA was the first to alert members to TSBDE's new fingerprint/State Identification Number (SID) renewal requirement taking effect January 1, 2026.
