The West Virginia Dental Association (WVDA) is the professional membership organization for West Virginia dentists — distinct from the regulatory West Virginia Board of Dentistry. WVDA advocates, educates, and supports over 800 dentists across the state through a tripartite structure comprising the American Dental Association, the WVDA, and West Virginia's 10 local dental societies.
Mission and programs
West Virginia ranks 49th out of 51 states and the District of Columbia for dental health. WVDA runs a public advocacy campaign, More For Your Smile, urging state lawmakers to ensure dental insurance premium dollars reach patient care.
- Advocacy — WVDA represents member interests before the Legislature and regulatory bodies, including insurance-reform and scope-of-practice issues.
- Continuing education — WVDA and its component societies (such as the WV Academy of General Dentistry) host in-person and online CE opportunities toward Board renewal requirements.
- Find a dentist — WVDA maintains a searchable member directory to help patients find local providers.
- Public resources — WVDA publishes public-facing dental health information, including insurance and Medicaid guidance.
- Member services — endorsed-partner discounts, an employment/job board, practice buy/sell brokerage assistance, and member forms and resources.
