Renewal protection Under Wis. Stat. § 227.51(2), a credential holder who submits a complete renewal application with payment by the expiration date remains eligible to practice while DSPS evaluates the renewal.

Under 2011 Wisconsin Act 210 (effective June 1, 2012), a license that expires while its holder is on active military duty is extended from 90 to 180 days after discharge; the same protection applies to a service member's spouse. Extensions beyond 180 days, and waivers of continuing education for hardship, may also be requested.
